Confusion reigns among OnePlus fans. It seems that the OnePlus 4 will never arrive, instead we will have the OnePlus 5. The most likely reason is not due to technical problems in development, but rather to a cultural peculiarity. A part of the name OnePlus could be the first manufacturer to offer a smartphone with 8 GB of RAM. There are also more details of its release date and price.

OnePlus 5: Release Date and Price

According to the latest leaks that come from Evan Blass and Blackbared the OnePlus 5 could be put on sale next June 22. In the same filtration confirms a Snapdragon 835 to 2.35 GHz and 8 GB of RAM. The date of presentation seems to take place two days before on June 20 at 18:00.

Thanks to a rumor that has spread from Facebook through a contest to attend a festival and win a new OnePlus 5. After some calculations deduce that the price of the device could be around 550 €. Of course it is all speculation but it can be an approximate figure.

So the OnePlus 5 is going to be more the most expensive device of the brand and can with quite a difference. The OnePlus 3T was € 40 more expensive than OnePlus 3, but this is still cheaper than comparable phones with similar features.

OnePlus 5: Design

Will this be the final aspect of OnePlus 5? In the Chinese social network Weibo this image has run like gunpowder the reason seems quite clear, a deep resemblance to the iPhone 7 Plus.

Weibo also has spread this image of the supposed OnePlus 5. It shows the back of the new smartphone of the Chinese startup with a double camera on the top of the device. It’s just a render but the rumors of the double camera have been around for a long time.

With regard to design there does not seem to be many changes compared to the third generation. We can see again the logo of the mark in the center of the back, which we assume will be also made of aluminum. On the other hand we expect that the module of the double chamber does not protrude as much as the camera of the OnePlus 3 or 3T.

The OnePlus 5 could have a ceramic cover. OnePlus already has experience in the use of ceramics with the limited version of the OnePlus X, so the use of this material in 5 is not so improbable. What is less likely, however, is that the entire OnePlus deck is made of this material. The most feasible is that the OnePlus 5, just like OnePlus only has the ceramic back, as was the case of OnePlus X.

OnePlus 5: Technical Specifications and Features

The mission of the new high end OnePlus is very clear: compete directly with the flagships of Samsung, LG, Google and Apple. There is no doubt that the OnePlus 5 should carry a Snapdragon 835 and according to the latest information coming from China could be the first smartphone with 8 GB of RAM. Double the RAM of what we can find in the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

For the screen, OnePlus should make the jump in 2017 to QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels), not to be left behind the competition. This would also be a novelty for the manufacturer, which until now has only brought Full HD screens. It would also be possible to see a camera with two sensors.

It is quite clear that the OnePlus 5 will have a double camera and to check its quality this image has been leaked in Weibo that seems to have been taken with the new OnePlus 5.

OnePlus 5 instead of OnePlus 4

Why would OnePlus want to omit number four in the name of its flagship for 2017? The reason lies more in the Chinese language than in a problem of development of the smartphone. In Chinese, the pronunciation of number four is very similar to the word “death”, so that number is associated in many places with death. So in Chinese culture, the number 4 is associated with bad luck, as is the case with 13 in Western countries. Many high rise buildings and hotels in China do not have the 4th or 14th floor and often also omit the rooms with a 4.
