Huawei P10 Plus – Availability & Pricing
Huawei introduced the P10 Plus in the context of the 2017 Mobile World Congress. Since April 2017 it is available in black graphite, silver, blue, gold and green. The availability of different colors may depend a little on the market.
The P10 Plus has an exit price of 709$. For this price increase we have a larger screen with higher resolution, 6GB RAM, 128GB and some more hardware improvements, compared to P10.
Huawei P10 Plus – Design and Finishing
Like the Huawei P10, the P10 Plus comes with a fingerprint sensor located on the front. Apart from that, we could say that the design of the P10 Plus stays quite faithful to that of the P9 Plus. If the Hyper-Cut-Diamond version, especially when combined with the new green color, could make it look like a brand new smartphone.
The new variant has a special finish that makes the surface is jumped up to 10 times with diamond. Thus in the microscopic structure of the surface are small pyramids that lower the index of reflection and thus reduce the brightness and reflections. This finish gives the back of the P10 Plus a rough touch.
Huawei protects not only the screen, but also the glass of the camera with Gorilla Glass 5. Thus, it is assumed that the P10 Plus could survive falls from 1.8 meters in height. Unfortunately it does not have an anti-grease layer to avoid slightly finger marks on the glass.
Huawei has put aside IP protection again and decides for an IPX3, which only protects the smartphone from splashing water. Therefore, in this section the Chinese manufacturer lags behind competitors such as the iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or Sony Xperia XZ, which have IP67 or higher.
Huawei P10 Plus – Screen
The Huawei P10 Plus’s 5.5-inch screen is an IPS panel with WQHD resolution. In comparison to the P9 Plus, Huawei not only has increased the resolution, but presents a different technology to the OLED panel. In principle is a good option for virtual reality but does not support Daydream technology as is the case of Moto Z for example.
OLED and Press Touch are a thing of the past
The P9 Plus continues to dominate a particular technology. This is PressTouch, which works similarly to 3D Touch of iPhone. The P10 Plus has given up the tactile sensitivity that allowed several levels of pressure. The reason may be that on native Android there is a similar feature in the form of Quick Shortcuts or fast shortcuts that would make the proposal of Huawei quickly become obsolete.
And how does the screen behave in everyday life? The high resolution of the Huawei P10 Plus Neo IPS panel gives a positive impression. Even in bright and direct sunlight, it is very easy to read and distinguish black levels on the screen that maintains the level of the old OLED display. The stability of the viewing angle is good in the P10 Plus, although there is a slight tendency to blue with very sharp angles. Unlike Samsung, with EMUI it is not possible to reduce the resolution to increase battery life.Anyway, the color temperature can be adjusted and has a night mode.With full screen brightness, battery life drops from almost 8 hours to about 5 ½ hours.
Huawei P10 Plus – Software
Inside we have EMUI 5.1, a new update of Huawei software. In the P10 Plus the version is above that which comes with the Mate 9 series. That simply means that the camera software adds new portrait features and a new gallery application was added in conjunction with the GoPro brand. Inside we have an optimized version of Android 7.0 Nougat.
“Optimized” means that EMUI analyzes the use we make and prepares to launch applications faster. This ensures high performance over the long term.
As for specific features that has included Huawei Android software, I recommend reading our article on the tricks of the Huawei P9 because with the update are almost the same software options, and so you can get an idea.
Huawei P10 Plus – Performance
In theory, the performance of the Huawei P10 Plus could be compared to that of Mate 9, P10 and Honor 8 Pro . The core of these devices is the SoC formed by the CPU Hisilicon Kirin 960 along with the Mali G71-MP8 GPU. In addition we have 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory.
Huawei is in a small controversy as in its latest high-end smartphones has not included the UFS 2.1 in its memories. But the manufacturer is already working to remedy it, of all in the Mate 9 the transfer speed is quite high.
Huawei P10 Plus: Benchmark

|GOOGLE OCTANE 2.0||9.407||9,775||8,807||10,081|
Overall the P10 Plus is very fast, at the same level as the Galaxy S8. In graphics performance is slightly smaller due to the small differences between the two GPU models mounted by each smartphone (12 cores for the S8 and 8 cores for the P10 Plus). The software of its EMUI 5.1 with Android 7.0 Nougat is well adapted to the software and offers a smooth experience.
Its LTE now supports up to Cat 12 by 600 Mbit / s, so its maximum speed has doubled. As for Wi-Fi we have MIMO 2×2 with the 802.11ac standard.The P10 Plus has twice as many antennas as the P10, ie four instead of two. Finally, Bluetooth is compatible up to version 4.2. On the other hand, only the P10 Plus has an infrared receiver.
Huawei P10 Plus – Audio
The Huawei P10 Plus comes with a plastic in-ear earphone. In the body of the smartphone we find stereo speakers, as in Mate 9, that is, mono in vertical and stereo in horizontal. Something that has caught my attention is that unlike Mate 9, the Huawei P10 Plus does not bring microphone for noise reduction.
The loudspeakers have a good volume for both calls and ambient music.As for the quality of the voice being transmitted there is no complaint on quality.
Huawei P10 Plus – Camera
The Huawei P10 Plus has on the back a better camera compared to the Mate 9. In principle we have the same combination of two cameras: a 20-megapixel resolution in black and white, and a 12-megapixel color, but We now have a Leica Summilux lens with an aperture of f / 1.8. At the front we find an eight megapixel camera, also with Leica lens and autofocus.
The aperture of the front camera is f / 1.9 and in addition it is necessary to emphasize a shooting mode for groupies. The camera software has been further optimized for modes. In many occasions the ‘Beauty’ mode of the smartphones of Huawei is criticized, that is why they have improved it and now it recognizes the canon of European beauty.
The P10 Plus has a much better aperture than the P10, f / 1.8 instead of f / 2.2. According to our specialist in photography, Malik Abey, the two flagships have very similar results which is not surprising. Even the P10, despite the aperture, may get sharper photos due to a minimal dispersion series. This can be seen as in the different ISO the noise is very similar between the ISO 1600 of the P10 Plus and ISO 3200 of the P10.
Overall, it’s a great camera, with a dual-lensed Leica lens, and one of the best cameras you can find in 2017.
Huawei P10 Plus – Battery
The battery has increased from the 3,400 mAh of the P9 Plus to 3,750 mAh. On the other hand, we have fast loading that promises us with just five minutes the possibility of watching two hours of film. Other details to highlight is the connector type C that only supports a traffic of USB 2.0.
PCMark battery benchmark with competition
|HUAWEI P10 PLUS||07:51 Std||3,750|
|HUAWEI P10||07:51 Std||3,200|
|HUAWEI MATE 9||11:46 Std||4,000|
|SAMSUNG GALAXY S8||08:37 Std||3,000|
|ONE PLUS 3T||07:55 Std||3,400|
|LG G6 (VORSERIE, USA)||05:26 Std||3.300|
As for the battery life we have that the Huawei P10 Plus adds to the mediocrity in tale to autonomy of most high-end phones. In the test of PCMark endured only 7 hours and 51 minutes, the same as the P10.

The Huawei P10 Plus is not a phone that surprises much looks like the P10 but improves some aspects and also offers a clear added value compared to the previous version. The Huawei P10 Plus is a fast and robust smartphone thanks to its metal monocoque and not like the Galaxy S8 or LG G6 that are covered in glass.
The Huawei Mate 9 has a larger battery with a significantly longer life, the P10 (without Plus) is smaller and manageable. Then we also have the 8 Pro honor, which has a much lower price and almost the same performance. Only when one understands the small details such as a better LTE connection, including optimized antennas, firmer housing and the small advantage of a larger aperture, then one understands the added value of the P10 Plus.
